There’s an almost amphitheatre effect as you drive down into the main parking area in front of the British Motor Museum at Gaydon. You crest a slight hill before the curved shape of the museum rises into view, backdrop on this occasion to a sea of over 350 cars assembled for the penultimate Coffee & Chrome Collective meet of the year.
And what a diverse selection to discover as you wade your way in. We spotted (and you may have seen this on our Instagram feed already) some genuine opposites parked up on display – an immaculate E39 BMW M5 sharing tarmac with properly veteran metal; VW campers next to nearly new coupés; a slammed Mk1 VW Polo strapped deliberately to the back of an LT Transporter; Supras and 911s mixing with Mustangs and muscle; and above all coffee and people sharing stories and experiences.
Maybe it’s the details that did it for you – the steering wheel stitching on a stunning E46 BMW M3 or digital displays on a time-travelling DeLorean – or you stand back and hop from one car to the next seeking inspiration for projects you’ve left at home. Either way, it’s a fabulous morning out for drivers, owners and passengers alike.
You’ll likely be reading this for one of two reasons: you were one of the lucky shortlisted applicants who won a free place at the event and joined us on the day, or you’ve wandered in from the cold after reading about our collective on social media. We welcome everyone – and use this corner of our website along with our social media to celebrate the cars owned by our members.
Also, check out our ‘welcome gallery’, featuring many of the cars and motorcycles that made it to Gaydon. If you want your vehicle to feature in the next of these colourful montages, pre-register now for our last meet of the year – it’s happening very soon. Oh, and did we mention there’s a free bacon butty in it for you?
